This painting is about struggle. The struggle of being in a dark place, being depressed – you can see the light around the edges…but it seems just out of reach. You try to do things to pull yourself out it…but it doesn’t work. Then eventually, you realize you’re okay again…you pulled through…even though you’re not sure just how or when you overcame the funk that you were in.
There is a song by the Indigo Girls, with a line that really resonates with me. The song is “Closer to Fine” It goes:
“Darkness has a hunger that’s insatiable and lightness has a call that’s hard to hear”.
Such true words. In the darker times, I often remind myself of this…to keep looking and listening for the light...it’s always there, even when its hard to find.
